Merger FAQs
Both credit unions were financially strong and shared the same values and vision for the future. By bringing our organisations together, we’ve created a larger, stronger credit union that can invest more in products, technology and member services.
This merger is about growth and improving what we offer members, both now and in the future.
For most members, very little will change.
Your member number will remain the same and your savings will stay safe and secure.
Metro Moneywise members can continue using the same app, although they’ll eventually notice updated branding.
No. The merger has been completed automatically for all members.
The only action required is for existing Money Co-op members will be to download the new app when invited to do so.
Existing savings accounts and loan agreements taken from Metro Moneywise will continue as normal.
As a combined credit union, we’ve carefully brought together the strongest products from both organisations. Members can benefit from a wider range of borrowing and savings options, including competitive loan rates, fixed-rate savings and flexible savings accounts with additional member benefits.
If you apply for a new loan or top-up in future, your application will be assessed against our current range of products.
No. If you already have a loan with us, your existing agreement under the Metro Moneywise name will continue as normal until it ends or you choose to top up your loan.
Yes. Savings remain protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), subject to the same protections and limits that applied before the merger.
Yes. We will continue to operate from both Manchester and Rochdale.
Absolutely. There have been no redundancies as part of the merger and staff from both organisations (Metro Moneywise and The Money Co-op) have joined together as one team. You’ll continue to receive support from the same friendly people who know and understand our members.
Yes. If you save or repay your loan through payroll deduction, there will be no change to the existing arrangement you had with Metro Moneywise.
Yes. The merger has expanded our common bond, which means more people may now be eligible to become members. This allows us to help more individuals, families and workplaces benefit from credit union membership.
The Money Co-op is a modern, recognisable brand that reflects who we are and what we do.
Metro Moneywise had already identified rebranding as part of its future plans, and bringing the two organisations together provided the perfect opportunity to move forward under a single name that represents our shared vision.
No. Both organisations entered the merger from a position of strength. This was a positive, strategic decision designed to create a stronger credit union that can offer even more value to members in the years ahead.
As a larger organisation, we’re able to offer:
- Faster service through a larger team
- A wider range of savings and loan products
- Competitive rates and new savings options
- Continued investment in technology and digital services
- More resources to support members now and in the future
If you have any questions about the merger or your membership, please contact us at info@themoney.coop and a member of the team will be happy to help.
